Frequently Asked Questions
Note: This FAQ only answers a few very specific questions which are not treated in the user documentation. Please consult the user documentation bundled with Alfred for more information.
Why should I authenticate twice?
Due to the architecture of Mac OS X permissions management, an extra authentication may be needed to perform an action requiring administration rights. It aims to give Alfred the permission to move and delete files that the user is not allowed to move or delete with his own rights.
Alfred does not have the permission by default but theoretically manages to keep it so the extra authentication should be needed only once. Alfred is however not able to keep the permission if it is stored on a write-protected volume like a CD-ROM or a disk image.
Why am I not able to copy Alfred?
Once Alfred has got the right to modify any file (see above), the Finder will refuse to copy the application claiming that it has special permissions and that it can't be copied. You will have to get a fresh copy from the original disk image.
Some rules have been duplicated. What is happening?
When built-in rules are updated, Alfred preserves your custom and restore all built-in rules. However, in order to modify the built-in rules, you have to turn them into custom rules which are not replaced during the update. Thus, new copies of the missing built-in rules are created back, looking like duplicates. To prevent this behavior, delete your customized built-in rules, and reset the built-in rules to restore the original rules.
